I like Serif products, there is just not enough "cloud support" on the net.Photos matter. I got an old copy of Serif's photo editor that came with Topaz licenses and I have upgraded the plugins and used them in other applications (Adjust and Clean). Even better if you can use them as normal plugins. X8 with those plugins for $50 is a bargain. (I think it installed with the disc, I just can't locate the original discs right now).
I have the Perfectly Clear that came with PSP X6, and it appears to be a full version, but I haven't tried to see if it works from my Lightroom.
Can one use the On1 9.5 to upgrade to 10 and use from Lightroom? The Same with Athentech SE. Special Edition, Standard Edition? There is no SE on their website.
On1 9.5 is a known application, but I don't know what the Perfectly Clear SE is. It would be something to find out if you could get them to work as a normal plugin and use them with LR. I don't know if these plugins will only work with X8. X8 gets you the older version on On1 9.5, and Athentech Clear SE. Put, you won't be able to pass a LR file to PSE as a smart object, can only do that to PS. PSE does not have smart objects, unless you buy a plug in for it like Elements+. You just have to export the file into the image processor du jour.
If you do not like the raw converters in any of the programs the software that ships with Nikon and Canon cameras is quite capable. I could envision switching to GIMP when I tire of the $10/month Adobe tithe for Photoshop CC. You may want to see if GIMP serves your purposes as it is a very powerful image editor at an unbeatable price. The last time I looked at it I do not believe GIMP had full color management (primarily required for high quality printing and other specific purposes and requires calibration of a monitor capable of being calibrated) but the current documentation indicates that GIMP now has color management.
GIMP is a free alternative to Photoshop that allows the use of non-destructive layers. Plugins can simplify many complex adjustment routines. There are many online tutorials that are very good for learning the basics of most programs, then you just have to experiment to see what works for you. I personally prefer using Bridge and Photoshop but obviously many prefer the Lightroom workflow and LR can be purchased as a standalone program. Long time Elements users would disagree but may not know what they are missing.ĭepending on your aspirations and budget ultimately you would be better off learning your way around Photoshop or Lightroom. The raw converter options are quite truncated in Elements, at least the last version I looked at which would be a year ago (they seem to come out with a new one every 6 months). To be honest, having spent so many years with Photoshop I find Elements nearly unusable because I feel handcuffed by what you cannot do, the desktop and emphasis on automatic adjustments. It is not Photoshop but if you learn the ropes it is more capable than Elements in my experience. If I could choose only one I would choose Paintshop Pro. If you are shooting raw I found Paintshop Pro inherently more capable than Photoshop Elements but it uses a somewhat different paradigm than Adobe products. Jpegs have little room for massaging pixels. In truth if you are shooting jpegs there is little to be gained by anything other than the software that came with your camera. There is a learning curve for all complex software. If you are into developing Raw files it also has ACR that will open and edit Raw files from the latest cameras, the downside is if you get new cameras you would probably have to upgrade to the latest version for Raw files as I have just done. If you have worked with CS then you would find the interface familiar.Īt the moment it is on sale for $59 for the download. Yest Elements does have adjustment layers and would probably do more than you are looking for. I have been using Elements for years and have just upgraded to PSE14. I can't really say much about Paintshop, I did try it but didn't like it. Could someone who maybe used them both, explain which is the best one ? Does these software included like : adjustment layers (I was palying a little with CS6) ? Looking for fixing my photos with mainly bad exposures, organize them, create albums. The price looks ok for both in thse days. I do not know other softwares who can compete in the same segment. I am looking at Photoshop Elements 14 and Corel Paintshop X8 Pro Ultimate.
